Concluding an Agreement with Sakhalin State University

An Agreement between the SRC and Sakhalin State University was signed on February 17, 2006. The aim of this agreement is to foster the exchange of scholars and to collaborate in research on topics of mutual interest, especially in the field of history and area studies.

The delegation of Hokkaido University, headed by Professor Hara Teruyuki took part in the first International Symposium on the history of Sakhalin (Karafuto), which took place in November 2005 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and enjoyed fruitful discussions with colleagues from Sakhalin State University and other scientific institutions in Sakhalin. During this symposium, Professor Lisitsyna, vice-president of Sakhalin State University, proposed concluding the above-mentioned agreement with the SRC. In February 2006, the second symposium was organized in Sapporo with the participation of eminent Japanese scholars of history of Sakhalin (Karafuto) and representatives of Sakhalin scientific institutions (Sakhalin State University, State Archive of Sakhalin Oblast).

Professor Lisitsyna, vice-president of Sakhalin State University, and Professor Tabata, the then Director of the SRC signed the Agreement on the last day of the Sapporo symposium. This agreement is the first that the SRC has concluded with a university in the Russian Far East.
