Group 3 Economy : Outline
The Possibility of Sustainable Economic Development
The project will study the impact that Russia, China, India and other regional powers (e.g., Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Turkey) have on the world as regional economic powers and, conversely, the impact that global political and economic trends have on these countries. This research will incorporate perspectives such as macroeconomics, international finance, industrial structures and corporate systems, as well as resource and environmental issues. Based on the results of those investigations, we aim to gain insights into the potential for these countries to maintain and further their positions as regional powers. Specifically, the objectives of the research are to:
- Create a database of economic statistics and laws that allows comparison of regional powers (mainly Russia, China and India) regarding macroeconomics, international finance, industrial structures and corporate systems, as well as resource and environmental issues.
- Ascertain the common and individual problems faced by regional powers in terms of macroeconomic structure, each country's position within the international finance market and changes in industrial structures, as well as the past and future of corporate systems.
- Having gained an understanding of the resource and environmental issues faced by regional powers (mainly Russia, China and India), analyze these countries' resource diplomacy (or resource nationalism) and their behavior patterns in terms of international environmental protection frameworks (especially the Kyoto Protocol), and observe whether resource and environmental problems are restricting their sustained economic development.
- Investigate whether Russia, China and India and other regional powers could serve as alternative theoretical models to globalization.
